Mayorkun Biography

Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, better known as Mayorkun, was born on March 23, 1994, in Osun State, Nigeria. He comes from a family of entertainers, with his mother being a Nollywood actress and his father being an artist and movie producer.

Mayorkun had an early start in music as part of the choir, and he later earned a degree in accounting from the University of Lagos. Prior to his discovery by Davido, he was working at a bank but left in search of better opportunities when Davido spotted his cover of “The Money” on social media.

Mayorkun’s music career took off in 2016 when he was signed to Davido’s record label, Davido Music Worldwide. He debuted with the single “Eleko,” which quickly gained popularity and reached number 5 on the Nigeria Playdata charts.

He released his debut album, The Mayor of Lagos, in November 2018, which appeared on the Billboard World Albums chart, peaking at number 15.

In 2021, he announced his exit from DMW and released his second studio album, “Back in Office,” under Sony Music West Africa.
