Reekado Banks, whose real name is Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, was born on December 6, 1993, in Lagos, Nigeria, to a music-loving family. He grew up under the disciplined upbringing of his parents, who were both pastors.

He completed his secondary education at the age of 14 and began recording his first set of songs in 2008. His elder brother, who produced his earlier songs, tutored him on the basics of singing, writing, and producing.

In 2014, Reekado Banks graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in History and Strategic Study.

In 2014, Reekado Banks signed a record deal with Mavin Records after his brother submitted some of his songs to the label in an online talent search. He debuted with the release of “Turn It Up,” which was his first official single under the label.

He became an integral part of the Mavins, an all-star group offshoot of Don Jazzy’s Mavin label. Banks won Rookie of the Year at The Headies in 2014 and the controversial Next Rated award at The Headies in 2015. He also signed an endorsement deal with Nigerian telecommunications company Globacom in 2015.

In 2016, Reekado Banks released his debut studio album, Spotlight, which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard World Albums chart. The album was a commercial success and won the artist another Headies award.

In December 2018, after five years with Mavin Records, he announced his departure from the label and launched his independent outfit, Banks Music.
